We see everything through the person of Jesus: his life, teachings, death, and resurrection. We believe that when we look at Jesus, we can look beyond the categories offered by our world and into new possibilities.
Inclusive
We believe that inclusivity is more than a buzzword: it is the way of Jesus. We strive to be a community where all people– regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, political persuasion, or socioeconomic status– can flourish. LGBTQ people are joyfully welcomed to participate in every aspect of church life and leadership. All people seeking a closer relationship with Jesus are welcome to receive Holy Communion in the United Methodist Church.
Relationships First
Jesus taught us to love our neighbors, and love requires a relationship! We believe that the church should be a place where people who might not usually interact can become good friends, so we seek to build meaningful relationships with people of different ages, backgrounds, and beliefs.

Meet Pastor Julia
Rev. Julia Hayes
Hi there! I’m Julia. Like many in Leland, I am not originally from here- I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and still root for the Buckeyes. I earned a BA in Biblical Studies and Biblical Languages from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, and an MDiv from Duke Divinity School. North Carolina has been my home ever since! I was ordained as an elder in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church in 2023. I’m married to Matt, who is also a United Methodist pastor. Our greatest joy is our son, Henry, who was born in 2026! I’m passionate about creating a compelling, inclusive Christian community where all people can encounter Jesus.

Where are you located?
We are a church for Leland, North Carolina. We do not yet have a building or a permanent location. In the fall, weekly worship will be held in southwest Leland. Right now, the Grove UMC exists wherever our people are!
